A key objective has been to share historical information on numerous categories and companies in the perfume and vanity industries through our printed publication, Perfume Passage Journal.

In 2006, we met French artist and perfume bottle designer Serge Mansau. We were aware of his bottle designs, but not of him as the artist. We realize that others might not be familiar with Serge as the designer of bottles they love, yet they most likely own one or more of his creations!

The history of solid perfumes can be traced to ancient Egyptian times when scents were often created using beeswax and fragrant oils.

In a quest to scent our surroundings, for centuries everything from burning incense and perfume to perfume lamps has been used.  And while the history of perfume burners goes back centuries, the category of collecting perfume lamps seems to be a somewhat newer area for collectors.

Perfume Passage Foundation held its first Midwinter Night's Fragrance Soiree, a multi-scentsory scent dinner, at the Sanfilippo estate in Barrington Hills. The elegant evening featured international fragrance expert Sue Phillips, of Sue Phillips Fragrance. She took our sense of scents to new heights as guests discovered the magic and mystery of exquisite ingredients used in fragrances, food and wines, indulging in these pairings, as the senses were celebrated at Perfume Passage!

Paul Poiret (1879-1944) is the first Couturier that launched a fragrance.  

In 1911 Poiret's fashion house expanded to include perfumes and interior design. Poiret's fashion house became one of the most well known of its time, especially after he launched Parfums de Rosine and Ateliers de Martine, named after his daughters Rosine and Martine. He soon became known as Le Magnifique.

The Chicago area played an important role in the development and expansion of the perfume and cosmetic industries.
